I am writing a screenplay in 30 days. Because why not?
I am only in this physical human body once, I will share my perspective.
So, question for everyone...
Is it WRONG or is it SMART to have the villain/antagonist be based primarily on a specific person that you know?
Please vote and tell me your rationale.
Here's a little more information:
This villain will be the reason the hero starts to grow, but it will be at the expense of pain from his evil doing. The hero does not need the villain in order to change and evolve, but he triggers her evolution. I am using my experiences with the person I know to shape the villain's actions, reactions, and behaviors.
Follow up question for you over-achievers:
Would you ever want to be the basis for a character in someone's story?
* If yes, would you care if you were the hero or the villain, or a supplemental role?
* If no, would your answer change if the writer said you'd be the basis for the hero? i.e. the main character
Lastly, if you had to choose between watching The Matrix and The Notebook right now, which would you choose, and why?
Considering that black and white, good and evil are very subjective growth preclusive dichotomies, more suitable for manipulating people, as oppose to educating, I would suggest to look at the "villain" solely as an antagonist. That would automatically bring much more depth to your script. Though, you probably have finished it already? :-)
